Books and other library resources should be provided for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people of the community the library serves. (from the Library Bill of Rights)
200.1 Library Use
All library users are expected to respect the rights of others to use the library by not engaging in the following activities: loud talking, unnecessary noise making, destruction of property, or disruptive conduct. Interfering with other patron’s use of the library or with the library personnel’s duties will result in a request to leave the library.
Books, magazines and audio books may be borrowed for two weeks and renewed, if necessary. There will be a ten cent fine per day for each item overdue. Videos may be borrowed for seven days, five videos per family, and renewed, if necessary. Patrons must have an adult library card to borrow videos. Library staff reserves the right to revoke borrowing privileges. If a patron has five overdues, unpaid fines of $5.00 or more, or regular overdues of more than six weeks, borrowing privileges may be suspended. Lost or damaged items will be assessed replacement charge and all overdue fines.
200.3 Overdue (Notice to Patrons)
Please make sure you know when your library materials are due and return them on time. You may place library material in the book drop after hours. If necessary, you may call the library (or use STARCAT) to renew library material.
Library fines are $.10 per day for all material except videos, which are $1.00 per day.
If you have overdue material: you will receive a telephone call for the 1st (2 weeks) and 2nd (4 weeks) notices. If after six weeks the item(s) are still not returned, you receive a bill for the replacement cost. If your fines total $5.00 or more or you have more than five items overdue, you may lose all library privileges not only at the Dormann Library but any public library in the Southern Tier Library System.
200.4 Interlibrary Loan
Patrons must have a library card in good standing to borrow material from other libraries. When material arrives, patrons will be notified and all items should be picked up promptly. Material left more than seven days will be returned to lending library.
200.5 Patron Registration
All new patrons must fill out the Patron Registration Form. Parent signature is required for children under the age of 16. There is a $2.00 replacement fee for lost or damaged cards.
200.6 Procedure for Challenges to Library Material
The library seeks to provide materials and information presenting all points of view on current and historical issues. If any person or group wishes to challenge a selection they must fill out a Request for Reconsideration of Library Material form. This form will be reviewed by the Director and a response will be sent to the complainant. If the matter warrants, it will also be brought before the Library Board of Trustees.
