Adult, and Teen Programming Coordinator                                                               

35 hours per week. $19 per hour.

Any hours over 35 must be approved.

Reports to: Assistant Library Director

General Description

Provides library services to patrons ages 13 and up; including programming and community activities; works with staff to monitor and evaluate services; promotes and publicizes programming in the schools and the community.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Provides services and programming geared toward age groups 13 and up. Plans, prepares, and leads ongoing library programs with assistance of Programming Assistant(s).  Meets with Program Team regularly to discuss and plan upcoming programming and services. 
  • Schedules all programming for ages 13 and up and enters it into LibCal.  Monitors registrations in LibCal.
  • Coordinates with Social Media/Outreach Coordinator and Program Team regarding promotion, including use of print and social media, signage, and displays. Provides Social Media/Outreach Coordinator with all programming information in a timely manner so that it may be distributed throughout the community.
  • Prepares, plans for, and leads the Summer Reading Program (July through August) with other Programming Team members.
    • Creates prize/incentive structure, which may include soliciting local businesses and the community for incentive prizes.
    • Arranges for special guests or speakers.
  • Assesses need for programming supplies and places orders.
  • Creates outreach opportunities in the community with a presence at community events (e.g. Spirit of Christmas, Music in the Park, etc.).
  • Keeps electric sign up to date.
  • Compiles programming statistics and gives these to the Library Director monthly.
  • Maintains files of contacts and programming for future reference and creates documentation of work tasks for cross-training purposes.
  • Stays up to date on Juvenile/YA lit offerings and purchases materials in accordance with collection development policy.
  • Maintains tidiness and organization of youth collections/shelving and areas, including displays, signage, seating areas, etc. as well as in youth services storage, filing, and working areas.
  • Oversees the adult MakerSpace.
  • Attends continuing education workshops and informational meetings related to the position.
  • Finds and applies for grants as needed.
  • Is subject to work evenings and Saturdays, as programming requires.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Enthusiasm for working with teens, and adults, and seniors.
  • Ability to develop and execute interactive programming and activities, including those that center on literacy.
  • Ability to design posters, social media posts, and other promotional materials and displays.
  • Good communication skills, both in person and through writing, as well as ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain patron confidentiality and follow policy and procedure.
  • Considerable ability to pay attention to detail, prioritize tasks, organize information, and manage deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and effective under changing work priorities and with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work effectively with library patrons, employees and the general public. 
  • Ability to work without close supervision. 
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to stay current with emerging technologies and their applications in library services.
  • Willingness to embrace change and innovative approaches to library services.
  • Ability to utilize common office technology, including email, time clock systems, and other digital tools.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of two or four-year college degree – particularly in an education- or art-related field preferred.
  • Previous library experience preferred.
  • Experience working with children and young adults.
  • Computer and technology experience and basic technology troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to participate in trainings on a variety of library-related topics.
